Oh, the Places You’ll SWO! As RAN MWOs!

Congratulations!
Today is your day
You’re off to great places
You’re off and away

You have brains in your head; Binos in hand
Deployment at sea; Not another OOWMAN!
You’re now on your own, you know what you know
But remember, it’s the Captain who will decide where to go

You’ll drive up and down channels, harbours and seas,
You’re on a real bridge, you’ve got that BWC
Nav’s, PWO’s, XO’s and Commands
Reports with brevity, no waffle they’ll demand

Out there things can happen
and they frequently do,
But You’ve trained for this,
You’ll know what to do

Radars and radhaz, contacts and fixes,
Evolutions, sit reps, screenplays, and helm trickses,
You know this, you’ve got this, so don’t worry or stew
You’ve got your BWC, you’ll know what to do!

Birdie’s, dippers, it’s warfare alright
Devils and vampires, it all happens at night
But your watch it is, and an MWO you are
At least for 2 years, you’ll be this Ship’s star

Ops room, Command, they all want reports
And you will remember the reports, the reports of all sorts
Contacts, wheelovers, defects, morning glories
Though you’ll be tempted, reports can’t be stories……..

You’ll give it your best, and you’ll always proceed
You’re young and invincible, you will always succeed
Except when you don’t, because sometimes you won’t
Bogies and Vampires can come after Your Boat

You’ll hear guns, torpedoes, woofers, and missiles
Your watch is soon over, can’t they wait just a while
The PWO is shouting, it’s noisy, can’t hear
Thank goodness, at Watson, you developed that third ear

It’s all happening, waters crashing, all manning our stations
For the bogie to go, you’re here for our Nation
But an MWO you are, and this is your Ship
You’re not trained to lose, a 9 mil on your hip

You’ll give conning orders and check starboard quarters
Your team is behind you, to protect Aussie borders
6-minute fixes, keep an eye on the clock
This ship’s not going down, not on your watch!

Confetti and missiles, you all know your stuff,
Torpedoes are launching, it’s going to get rough
You’ll get confused, and your pulse, it will race
Giving orders and pipes, at ground-breaking pace

You’ll go on for miles, you’ve got capacity and space
Because you’re an MWO, and you know your place!

……….And then all is quiet,
back in the grot,
To the wardroom you’ll go,
Wishing a scotch on the rocks

Two hours sleep, and now you’re back to it,
To the bridge and Reports, just gotta do it
Outstations, MCR, Crash boat, and Flying Stations
FOD walkdowns, defects, and the Captain’s location

The PWO to ring, or the Helo to go,
Ready and waiting for a yes or a no,
To go alongside, or a swim exercise
Never a dull moment, it’s all a surprise

Oh the places you’ll go, there is fun to be done
An MWO you are, there are points to be won
Pollywog or shellback, a line to be crossed
Old tuna milkshake, on you it was tossed

Whether on Huon, Adelaide, Paluma, or Ararat
Altercations a given, don’t be the ship’s brat
Parramatta, Hobart, Choules or Brisbane
Don’t shrug it off with a wave of disdain

Warramunga, Toowoomba, Stuart or Success
Don’t get caught, in another person’s mess
Replenishers, landing ships or HMAS Sirius
Always remember, to remain curious

Cape Classes, Minehunters, Frigates or Destroyers,
An MWO you are, and you’re off as deployers

So, whether your Ship, be your choice or not
Be happy, and enjoy, the Ship that you got
Be proud of you, as from Watson you stray
You’re off to Great Places, today is your day

When you get down, and there are times that you will
When you get seasick, suck it up, just take a pill
Think of good times, keep planting that seed
You do make a difference, absolutely indeed

Keep thinking positively, and You will succeed,
